Organic is a term that refers to products
that are produced under the authority
of the Organic Foods Production Act. The
principal guidelines for organic production
are to use materials and practices that
enhance the ecological balance of natural.
The primary goal of organic agriculture
is to optimize the health and productivity
of interdependent communities of soil life,
plants, animals and people.
The Organic definition from the National
Organic Standards Board adopted in
April 1995 is “Organic agriculture is an
ecological production management system
that promotes and enhances biodiversity,
biological cycles and soil biological activity.
It is based on minimal use of off-farm inputs
and on management practices that restore,
maintain and enhance ecological harmony.”
“Certified Organic” means that the item
has been grown according to strict uniform
standards that are verified by independent
state or private organizations.

Regulation started with the Organic
Food Production Act (OFPA). The
National Organics Standards Board was
then established to develop guidelines
and procedures to regulate all organic
crops. The United States Department of
Agriculture (USDA), in Dec 2000, unveiled
detailed regulations to implement OFPA.
USDA’s National Organic Program
oversees the program.
Organic refers to the way agricultural
products are grown and processed.
This is based on a system of farming
that maintains and replenishes soil
fertility without the use of toxic and
persistent pesticides and fertilizers.
Organic products are processed without
artificial ingredients, preservatives
or irradiation to maintain the integrity
of the product.
Using organic products will limit your
exposure to toxins that can cause a
variety of health problems.
